Happy Pride! Taking place every June, Pride month is a celebration of the 2SLGBTQIA+ community and their history, achievements, legal rights and diversity.
To start the month off, we wanted to share some fantastic resources related to the 2SLGBTQIA+ community, and one that stands out in particular also happens to have a tie to health care: Rainbow Health Ontario.
Rainbow Health Ontario is a program of Sherbourne Health that creates opportunities for the health care system to better serve 2SLGBTQIA+ communities. They offer a wide range of resources for 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, their loved ones and families, health care professionals and service providers alike:
Resource Library
The Resource Library aims to collect and share the most relevant and reliable 2SLGBTQIA+ health resources for Ontario 2SLGBTQIA+ communities, service providers and others with an interest in 2SLGBTQIA+ health.
Service Provider Directory
Rainbow Health Ontario designed a directory to help people find health and social service providers who have expressed a commitment to providing competent and welcoming care to 2SLGBTQIA+ people in Ontario.
Trans Health Knowledge Base
Answers to commonly asked questions by trans and non-binary folks in Ontario, gathered by Rainbow Health Ontario and their FAQs working group.
Education and Training/LGBT2SQ Health Connect
Rainbow Health Ontario offers training for healthcare and social service providers to increase their clinical and cultural competency in caring for their 2SLGBTQIA+ service users. With LGBT2SQ Health Connect, their new online learning platform, these trainings are now easily accessible from anywhere across the province.
Other local 2SLGBTQIA+ organizations include, but are not limited to, SPECTRUM, OK2BEME, The Gender Variant Working Group, the Waterloo Region Rainbow Coalition, and PFLAG Waterloo, Wellington, Perth.
You can also support Pride at Grand River and the care and patient experience of 2SLGBTQIA+ folks: donate in support of Pride directly, or check out our Pride collection. All of the proceeds from our Pride collection will go towards Grand River Hospital's commitment to create safe spaces for our community, both for those accessing care and those working at our hospital.
