Last Monday, Grand River Hospital welcomed Ontario’s Deputy Premier and Minister of Health, Sylvia Jones, to the Freeport Campus, where she announced the launch of three new programs by the provincial government.

This spring, the owner and an employee of K.W. Towing hand delivered hundreds of dollars in loonies and toonies to Foundation House in support of breast cancer care at Grand River Hospital. Their generous donation was collected one service call at a time — one of their tow trucks features pink lettering in support breast cancer care, and for every service call it makes, one dollar is donated to the Hospital. This is just one of the creative ways our community members choose to give back in support of care for our communities.

Community members of all ages and skill levels can raise money for Grand River Hospital while playing alongside NHL and professional hockey players at the Scotland’s Yard Road Hockey Classic.

If you participated in McHappy Day this year, you might have come across some of our incredible Grand River staff and volunteers at three local McDonald’s locations bringing the community together in support of local children’s cancer care.

Inspired by the courage of Scotland, a young cancer survivor, and led by a group of dedicated community members, Scotland’s Yard is a health care initiative established with the goal of enhancing children’s cancer care in Waterloo Region.

Golfers will hit the greens in support of cancer care on Saturday, August 19 at Wildwinds Golf Links during the third annual RJ Strong Golf Tournament. Proceeds from the tournament will go to the Ryan Johnston Family & Friends Fund to support the needs of young adults receiving care at Grand River Regional Cancer Centre. Inspired by his experience undergoing treatment at the Cancer Centre for Hodgkin’s lymphoma, Ryan Johnston established the fund to provide patients with financial assistance for common cancer-related expenses.

Finding comfort during a hospital stay takes creativity, and Grand River Kids need your help. As kids get older (and bigger), Grand River Hospital helps them through accidents, illness, ongoing treatment, and mental health care. Sometimes, patients and families don’t have the chance to pack their things before coming to the hospital. That’s where you come in!

Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest has been recognizing the achievements of women* in our community with the Rogers Women of the Year awards for almost five decades since its inception in 1975. Every year, they partner with a charitable organization that supports the needs of local women, and we are proud to share that Grand River Hospital Foundation has been selected to be their charitable partner this year. The proceeds from the ceremony's Oktoberfest Cares silent auction will go towards a new breast ultrasound machine for Grand River Hospital.

TAMVOES is a health management platform that allows patients to take charge of their health and treatment journey. The platform facilitates sharing health information between individuals, families, and their professional teams. Founded in 2019 and based in Waterloo, TAMVOES aims to empower people with their health information.

Team Legacy Car Community hosts Kitchener-Waterloo's largest annual charity car show displaying import tuners, off-road vehicles and super cars. Each year Team Legacy supports a local charity by hosting raffles and a 50/50 draw at their event. This year all proceeds will go to Scotland’s Yard in support of kids cancer care at Grand River Hospital!

Grand River Hospital volunteer Chris Costa was inspired to take action and raise money for local health care after seeing the need in the community while volunteering in the hospital’s emergency department. On May 6, 2023, Chris will embark on a 24-hour walk to raise money for Camino Wellbeing + Mental Health, Women's Crisis Services, and Grand River Hospital as part of an initiative he created called Change In Motion.
