Father's Day

Paul McIntyre Royston

As we approach Father’s Day this weekend, my thoughts naturally go to my Dad, a hero in my eyes. A letter carrier for 30 years, he would walk more than 20 km each day delivering mail. His route locally for probably a decade was off Connaught, north of Fairview mall. With all that time spent in the sun, he developed skin cancer. It started with one lesion on his face and they have for years. His treatment was second to none, and I am so grateful they have been able to treat the lesions and keep my Dad in good...

The Nurses in Our Lives

Paul McIntyre Royston

Thank you to our nurses!  Our nurses work so hard all year, and lately they’ve been under tremendous pressure as a result of COVID-19. Green Acre RV Park & Bruce Martin

Paul McIntyre Royston

In my world of fundraising it’s the stories about everyday people who step forward to do remarkable things that make what I do every day never feel like work.  Like the story of Bruce Martin and his family that I’d like to share with you today.  In 1974, Bruce’s Dad took his passion for gardening and grew it into  Green Acre RV Park - a  project that started as a hobby to get people together and out of their apartments. This donation - which is the second highest Grand River Hospital has ever received (What is the first?)- will support two important initiatives: $4.5 million for a new MRI scanner at Grand River Hospital and $100,000 for RegionReady.ca. What makes this donation even more special is that Equitable Life is also celebrating an anniversary this year! The company has 100-year old roots in Waterloo Region and I’m so inspired by the fact the donation will improve the lives...

Staying connected

Paul McIntyre Royston

These past few weeks have been difficult as we all adjust our lifestyles in a world with physical distancing, working remotely and only leaving home for the most essential reasons.  In a time of uncertainty it’s also a time of strength and resiliency. It’s heartwarming to see messages of hope and encouragement for essential workers and community members stepping up to help those in need.  Earlier this year we hosted an event with a panel of experts in the medtech industry. One of them was Armen Bakirtzian, Chief Executive Officer, Director and Co-Founder of Kitchener-based Intellijoint Surgical.  When there were...
