When every minute counts, it’s critical to have world class care close to home. Helping an average of 200 patients every day, Grand River Hospital’s emergency department is at the ready 24/7, 365 days per year, providing critical and lifesaving care when we need it most.
Emergency care encompasses all of the emergency and critical care services we rely on in times of serious injury or illness, including the emergency department, fracture clinic, intensive care unit (ICU), acute stroke services, surgery and more.
In 2021, Grand River Hospital was recognized as one of the top ten emergency and critical care centres in Ontario—the only hospital outside of the Greater Toronto Area to make the list. Patients now experience shorter wait times and lengths of stay at the emergency department, and those who require admission are being moved the inpatient units more quickly. Grand River Hospital’s emergency department is also the largest in the region and provides care for the highest volume of patients.
