Renal Dialysis Chairs

Since dialysis patients receive treatment 3-7 days per week for 4-5 hours per treatment, chairs meant for one-time procedures simply do not meet their needs. The foundation is helping the Renal Department to replace old and worn chairs with chairs that will be more comfortable for patients.

The new, ergonomically designed chairs that the renal team would like to purchase have a backrest to support cardio-pulmonary resuscitation, snap-on/snap-off features for easier cleaning and allow for patients to exercise to some extent while receiving dialysis. At each community location, including Grand River's Freeport campus and the Palmerston and Guelph hospital sites, kidney dialysis is a core service. We are currently in need of 45 chairs.

The new chairs are electrically adjustable and have three separate sections—a leg rest, a seat and a back—for maximum safety and comfort. They also have a long service life and low maintenance costs, and because of the “snap on, snap off concept,” they are easy to maintain and clean.

Your support will allow dialysis patients to have maximum comfort during lengthy dialysis treatments.

In recent years, dialysis patients and the Renal Program Patient Family Advisory Council have been  strongly advocating the hospital to upgrade the old, uncomfortable treatment chairs that are designed for patients who only need one procedure.

In July 2021, we granted $55,000 to the hospital to replace some of the outdated dialysis chairs. In March 2022, we granted an additional $18,304 to the hospital for replacement dialysis chairs.
