A positron emission tomography (PET) scan is an imaging test that can help reveal the metabolic or biochemical function of your tissues and organs. The PET scan uses a radioactive drug (tracer) to show both normal and abnormal metabolic activity. A PET scan can often detect the abnormal metabolism of the tracer in diseases before the disease shows up on other imaging tests, such as computerized tomography (CT) and magnetic resonance imaging (MRI).  It is part of a critical next step in diagnosis of cancer in our community.  We are fundraising for capital dollars to buy it and operating dollars to put in to use as quickly and as often as possible.  Cancer Care Ontario recently approved Grand River Regional Cancer Centre to purchase a machine.

Our goal is to raise $7,000,000.

Currently, there are no PET scanners in the Waterloo Wellington region and patients have to travel to Hamilton or Mississauga to receive scans. As a result of the need to improve access to this important diagnostic modality, and with the support of Ontario Health Cancer Care Ontario (OH-CCO), Grand River Hospital (GRH) is looking to raise funds for this equipment.

Scotland's Yard is a dedicated group of women inspired to make Kids Cancer Care better in our Community.  It began with an incredible girl named Scotland (Scottie) who inspired them with her courage in the face of such a difficult journey. Join them today with your support for world class kids cancer right here.
