Grand River Hospital Partners With K-W Oktoberfest Rogers Women of the Year

Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest has been recognizing the achievements of women* in our community with the Rogers Women of the Year awards for almost five decades since its inception in 1975. Every year, they partner with a charitable organization that supports the needs of local women, and we are proud to share that Grand River Hospital Foundation has been selected to be their charitable partner this year. The proceeds from the ceremony's Oktoberfest Cares silent auction will go towards a new breast ultrasound machine for Grand River Hospital.

A breast ultrasound machine is a specialized medical imaging device that uses high-frequency sound waves to create images of a patient’s breast tissue. In breast cancer care, this type of imaging can be used to monitor changes over time, evaluate breast pain or other symptoms, and further examine lumps or suspicious areas detected during a mammogram or a physical exam. An additional machine for the Waterloo Wellington Breast Center at Grand River Hospital will also help address wait times for breast cancer screening and diagnostics, so more women can access these types of cancer services sooner.

As the only Ontario Breast Screening Program (OBSP) affiliate site in the region, the Waterloo Wellington Breast Centre performs over 18,000 mammograms and 5,000 breast ultrasound exams annually. It is seen as a regional centre of excellence, thanks, in part, to the support of critical community partners like the Kitchener-Waterloo Oktoberfest Rogers Women of the Year awards and their investment in health care in our community.

Join us in supporting the 2023 Women of the Year awards ceremony on Thursday, May 25 at The Ballroom at Bingemans as we pay tribute to these outstanding individuals in our community. Tickets can be purchased until May 21 by visiting their website at www.womenoftheyear.ca. You can also get involved by becoming an Oktoberfest Cares silent auction donor in support Grand River Hospital Foundation.

*Kitchener Waterloo Oktoberfest highlights that "Women of the Year are inclusive of all women, non-binary, transgender, two-spirited, women of all classes, races, sexualities, ableness, and identities. KWO Women of the Year is for all women."
