Thank you to our nurses!

Our nurses work so hard all year, and lately they’ve been under tremendous pressure as a result of COVID-19. The pandemic has placed unprecedented demand on the people who work at our hospital, especially our nurses. One way we can show our appreciation is through celebrating National Nurses Week.

Held this year from May 11 to 17, National Nurses Week was our chance to recognize nurses from every area of the hospital for the professionalism and care they provide to patients. Our nurses are an essential part of our health care team and we are so grateful to have them.

In the words of my colleague, Grand River Hospital president and CEO Ron Gagnon, “Nurses impact our lives in so many ways, big and small. It’s that gentle touch, that smile when it’s needed the most, the words of encouragement, and sometimes the tough discussions, the critical decision making, the clinical expertise that collectively and positively impact so many lives each and every day.”

We have a wonderful community here in Kitchener-Waterloo that has contributed food, treats, and much more to our nurses and other staff as a result of the COVID-19 crisis. Thanks to you, and the rest of our fantastic community, we were able to celebrate our nurses in style and let them know how much we appreciate their hard work.

Here’s a breakdown of what community members like you donated and delivered to our hospital during National Nurses Week:

  • 4255 meals for our two campuses to keep everyone’s energy up!
  • 800 bags of three products each from Lush Cosmetics to pamper our staff
  • 800 plants from Belgian Nursery and Gateman and Millroy to boost everyone’s spirits
  • 800 packets of three chocolates each from Esta Chocolates for a nice sweet treat

Thank you to our community for donating these gifts for our staff during National Nurses Week.

And a special big THANK YOU to all our nurses, who continue to bring their empathy, intelligence, and determination to their patients at our hospital, not just during the COVID-19 crisis, but every day of the year.
