Every year, thousands of children pass through the doors of Grand River Hospital. Whether it’s an emergency visit, cancer treatment, managing diabetes, or receiving lifesaving care in our Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU), each child relies on our hospital to ensure their health and survival. From their first breaths to critical moments of care, we are always here for them - because care never stops.

As both a mother of three and a dedicated physician, Dr. Carolyn Hutzal holds a deep commitment to her community. Kitchener-Waterloo is not just her home—it’s where she pours her heart and expertise into improving children’s health. With the weight of the community’s health on her team’s shoulders, she envisions a future where care for kids is enhanced right here, close to home.
Her mission is clear: by strengthening our local healthcare system, we can reduce the strain on specialized centers out of the Region and help lower wait times.
This year, thanks to Dr. Hutzal and the team, together with the Grand River Hospital Foundation, we’ve made a significant leap - bringing pediatric echo services to the community. Families once had to travel as far as Mississauga and London for this vital ultrasound of the heart. Now, because of community support, we offer this life-saving diagnostic tool right here helping kids and families today.
