March is Music Therapy Awareness Month, and all month long we will be sharing stories about music therapy and our incredible team of music therapists to celebrate their profound and positive impact on patients and families at Grand River Hospital:
In the Child and Adolescent Mental Health programs, music therapy helps youth connect with their strengths and hope for recovery. A client named Beth* said that music therapy was the one thing she looked forward to during her in-patient stay at Grand River Hospital.

At Grand River Hospital, we are fortunate to have an esteemed team of health care providers to care for the kids facing cancer in our community. While they work tirelessly with the resources they have, our local hospitals currently only have the ability to provide limited children’s cancer care services. This means that families are often required to travel to hospitals outside of the Region on a regular basis for care, which only adds to the many hardships and challenges they face.
Grand River Hospital is committed to improving patient care through a number of innovative initiatives. We collaborate with our educational and corporate partners to identify and implement novel solutions to pain points experienced in health care. These innovations range from trialing new medical technologies to running clinical trials to learn more about COVID-19 and many others.
Waterloo-Wellington Community Haul is a monthly subscription box celebrating the best our communities have to offer, delivering beautiful local products right to your doorstep. $5 from every box purchased will go directly to St. Mary’s General Hospital, Grand River Hospital and Cambridge Memorial Hospital.
In just three months, the monthly subscription box has already raised over $3,500 for these local hospitals!
2 in 5 Canadians will get cancer in their lifetime, and everyone deserves access to cancer care when they need it. It’s one of the reasons why making specialized treatment and personalized, patient-centred care available right here is an important part of building a world class health system for our community.
For his 49th birthday, Karl Nieva decided to celebrate by doing something special: donating 49 coffees to the health care workers at Grand River Hospital. As a member of the Care. Never. Stops. Council and an active member of our community, this isn’t the first time Karl has given back to the community to celebrate his birthday. In fact, it’s something he typically does every year, supporting organizations across Kitchener-Waterloo and beyond.
When someone needs support for their mental health, it can be hard to know where to start. Navigating the health care system can be daunting and confusing—for some, it may feel so overwhelming that it deters them from taking the first step of seeking the support they need, and for others, it can be a long, frustrating experience of trying to find the right kinds of resources to meet their needs.
