The Concordia Club Treffpunkt Group’s Support for Breast Cancer Care Hits Close to Home

The Concordia Club Treffpunkt Group embodies the spirit of camaraderie and community with their generous dedication to giving back and their engagement in our local community. Beyond their social gatherings and ongoing involvement in the Concordia Club’s events and activities, including Oktoberfest, this group within the Club also manages the Club’s Partners for Life blood donation group and donates money and gifts-in-kind to two charities every year. This year, the Concordia Club Treffpunkt Group generously chose to donate the incredible $1,310 they raised from their annual bottle drive to the Waterloo Wellington Breast Centre at Grand River Hospital.

“We like to support local charities and, each year, choose a different one that is connected to us in some way or, in some cases, many ways,” explained Dana Komer, President, Treffpunkt Group. “We also like to choose those that do impactful and positive work in our community.”

Breast cancer, and supporting the Waterloo Wellington Breast Centre, is a cause that hit particularly close to home for the members of the Treffpunkt Group this year.

“We have watched our group member and dear friend fight, persevere, and not miss a beat in the battle [with breast cancer],” said Dana. “We are so proud of and humbled by her strength and her heart, and we wanted to do something to show our unwavering love and support and enormous respect for our dear friend.”

The Waterloo Wellington Breast Centre, located at the hospital’s Freeport Campus, provides access to routine breast cancer screening through the Ontario Breast Screening Program and services like diagnostic mammograms, breast needle localization to pinpoint the location of a lesion identified on a mammogram or ultrasound, breast biopsy under imaging guidance and the breast diagnostic assessment program (DAP), which is an innovative program designed to shorten wait times for people in our region with suspected breast cancer.

When you support breast cancer care and the Waterloo Wellington Breast Centre, you help ensure world class breast cancer screening, diagnosis and care right here in our community for all the people who live and work here.

“When we looked into a local charity that provided support for breast cancer warriors, [our group member] and others suggested the Waterloo Wellington Breast Centre as our local charity,” Dana said of the Treffpunkt Group’s decision to support breast cancer care at Grand River. “We know the reputation [the Waterloo Wellington Breast Centre] has for the positive work you do, the support structures you provide patients and the care you have for our community.”
